There are so many options for exposing your kids to good books in Portland. Of course, there are storytimes at your local library – you can go every day of the week in fact if you like! But many local bookstores, coffee shops, and community centers offer storytimes too. Below is our comprehensive compilation of all things story – enjoy!
Below you will find the general storytime schedule – it does not include cancellations. Please be sure to double check with the storyteller or host venue to make sure storytimes are still happening.

Black Story Time: The African and African American experience comes alive for children from birth to age 6 (with a favorite adult). In a positive and affirming environment, have fun with books and stories, songs and movement activities. Black Storytime builds language and literacy skills your child needs to be ready for kindergarten.
Book Babies: Babies from birth to 12 months (with a favorite adult) enjoy songs, action rhymes, and playtime and share a book together in each lively Book Babies session. Book Babies gives your baby the opportunity to hear lots of language while you get to know other young families.
Tiny Tots: One-year-olds (with a favorite adult) enjoy songs, movement activities, rhymes, books and playtime. This action-packed program engages new walkers in language-based activities.
Toddler Storytime: Two-year-olds (with a favorite adult) enjoy interactive stories, songs and games that encourage their emerging language skills.
Preschool Storytime: Children from ages 3 to 6 (with a favorite adult) have fun with engaging books, songs and activities as they build their early literacy skills.
Family Storytime: Children from birth to age 6 (with a favorite adult) enjoy books, songs, rhymes and movement activities while building language and literacy skills.
Chinese/English Storytime. Presented in Mandarin and English for children ages 3-7 years with adult.
Chinese (Cantonese) Storytime. Presented in Cantonese for children ages 0-6 years with adult.
Hora de Cuentos: Se presentan cuentos, canciones y rimas en español para familias con niños de 0 a 6 años de edad.
Preschool Sensory Storytime: This storytime, open to all preschoolers, is especially geared to children with sensory integration issues. If your child has difficulty sitting through one of the library’s other storytimes, this program of stories, songs and activities may be just what you are looking for. We encourage you to talk with the youth librarian before attending, so she can learn more about your child and alert you to procedures that help the library cope with room capacity issues. Vietnamese Storytime: Presented in Vietnamese for children ages 0-6 (with a favorite adult).
Pajama Time: Put on your pajamas, grab a bedtime buddy, and join us for stories, songs and fun. For children 6 years and younger (with a favorite adult).
