Get ready for the most fun you’ve ever had at an art gallery! Artists come in all sizes at Chagall for Children, the new traveling exhibit at Portland Children’s Museum. The exhibit features 14 reproductions of some of Marc Chagall’s most famous paintings, such as “The Circus,” “The Birthday,” and “Paris Through the Window.” Each painting is paired with an audio recording about its history and content and interactive components as imaginative as the paintings themselves.
Pint-sized artists are encouraged to explore color, light, composition, and texture by creating masterpieces of their own in the Paint Studio, a space developed especially for this exhibit. Filled with canvases, paints, and palettes, children stand at easels or sit on artist benches (inspired by Chagall’s goats) to paint solo or collaborate on a colorful mural. Visitors can view amazing artwork made by children in new permanent space The Art Gallery at the Museum.
